How to Register a U.S. Trademark From Pakistan: Step-by-Step

A practical walkthrough for Pakistani applicants.

If you're running a business in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad or anywhere else in Pakistan and want to protect your brand name in the United States, the process is more straightforward than it looks once you break it into steps.

Step 1: Decide what you're protecting

Start by deciding whether you want to protect a word/name, a logo, or both together. This affects how your application is filed and what evidence you'll eventually need to show use of the mark.

Step 2: Run a preliminary search

Before spending anything on government fees, check whether an identical or very similar mark already exists for related goods or services. This is exactly what our preliminary search is for — it flags obvious conflicts early.

Step 3: Identify your goods/services and class

Your application needs a clear description of what you sell — "leather handbags," "IT consulting services," "bakery products" — mapped to the correct Nice Classification class.

Step 4: Prepare your applicant information

You'll need your legal name (or your Pakistani company's legal name), your Pakistan business address, and details of your current or planned use of the mark in the U.S.

Because you're domiciled in Pakistan, USPTO rules require you to be represented by a U.S.-licensed attorney for the actual filing and any USPTO correspondence. We coordinate this step for you — see our foreign-applicant guide for details.

Step 5: File and pay the USPTO fee

The application is filed through the USPTO's system, with the government fee ($350 per class) paid at that time — separate from our $150 service fee.

Step 6: Track and respond to USPTO correspondence

After filing, we monitor your application's status and let you know about any Office Actions or other USPTO developments that need a response.
